Description
Duck Cottage is a house that dates from the 15th or 16th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building is rendered and whitewashed, built on a core of cob and rubble, and possibly includes some timber-framing. It has a thatched roof and is designed as a hall house, which was later floored. The outer room was rebuilt in the 20th century to serve as a kitchen. The cottage has a rectangular plan and stands two storeys high, featuring two bays on the east front. The windows are wooden casements with mullions and transoms, consisting of 2, 3, and 4 lights, all with leaded glass and wooden lintels. A large two-stage buttress with tile offsets was added in the 20th century. The door opening on the west side has a 4-centred arch with a wooden architrave and a plank door, leading to a porch. Inside, there is a jointed cruck truss and a timber-framed partition that extends from the ground to the roof, which includes an original doorway and ceiling beams.
