Description
Peacock Cottage is a house that dates back to the 15th century, with alterations from the 17th century and further work in the 19th century. It features roughcast and rubble fabric, with a roof made of triple-Roman and pantiles in two sections of differing height, along with brick and rubble stacks. The building has a cross passage plan, is single storey and attic, and has two storeys, arranged in two bays on the left side. The ground floor has four 18th-century casement windows with cast-iron ventilators, while the first floor has two three-light wooden-mullioned windows with ovolo moulding and leaded lights, one of which has an iron quadrant. The remaining openings are from the 19th century, including three-light casements with glazing bars and a two-light window with a top hung ventilator on the extreme right of the ground floor. The door opening is nearly central and features a studded plank door with a 20th-century hood. At the rear, there is a narrow stairlight in a dressed stone surround. Inside, there is a plank and muntin partition, an ornamental plaster frieze on the ground floor, a winder staircase, and some minor plasterwork on the first floor, including paterae. The roof is constructed using cruck framing.
