Description

This water hydrant and its surrounding wall are located about 10 metres south-east of Cranford in Haselbury Plucknett. Dating from the late 19th century, the hydrant is made of cast iron and features a fluted pillar on a plinth. It has a band at the head, a fluted domical cap with a bud finial, and a lion head cast into the north side. There are four spouts with keyed stoppers set in the band. The enclosing wall, made of rubble stone, is about one metre high and surrounds an area of approximately one metre square on three sides. This hydrant is one of several still existing in the village, with another located in front of the Old Post Offices on Swan Hill.
