3/31 Water hydrant, about 10 metres south-east of Cranford, and enclosure wall

GV II Water hydrant & surrounding walling. Late C19. Cast iron hydrant, rubble stone walling. Hydrant has fluted pillar on plinth, with band to head, then fluted domical cap with bud finial: lion head cast into north side, and 4 spouts with keyed stoppers set in band. Walling about one metre high encloses an area of about one metre square on 3 sides. One of several such hydrants surviving in this village; there is another in front of the Old Post Offices Swan Hill (q.v.).
