Water hydrant at Jared Gear Cottages

The water hydrant at Jared Gear Cottages is a cast iron structure made by Glenfield and Kennedy of Kilmarnock, dating from the late 19th century or early 20th century. It features a fluted pillar on a plinth, topped with a band and a fluted domical cap that has a bud finial. A lion head is cast into one side of the hydrant, and there are four spouts with keyed stoppers set into the band. A makeshift shelter, consisting of a small brick wall and a corrugated metal roof around the hydrant, is not considered of special interest and is excluded from the listing.
