Description
This is a milestone located outside the Post Office and Stores in Haselbury Plucknett, dating from the early 18th century. It is made of Ham stone and features a cast iron plaque. The stone measures approximately 500 millimeters wide, 200 millimeters thick, and 1.1 meters high, with a triangular top. The plaque, which is about 300 millimeters wide and 220 millimeters high, has a double-ogee top and reads 'VII/YEOVIL', with the town name set on a slight curve. The road through the village was the main route from Salisbury to Exeter by 1675, although it was bypassed shortly after 1840. From 1753, this road was maintained by the Yeovil Trust.
