Description

Glebe House is a semi-detached house in Hasebury Plucknett, originally a storage building or adjunct to the 16th-century Vicarage. The majority of the house dates to the 18th century, with subsequent modifications. It is constructed of ham stone rubble with coursed rubble, and has a clay tiled roof over stone slate base courses. The gables are high and stepped, suggesting a former thatched roof. Brick chimney stacks are also present.

The south-facing elevation, which is the main facade, is random and four bays wide. It includes 18th-century leaded casement windows of two lights in the first bay, with more modern casements occupying the remaining bays. The east gable features an old boarded entrance door within a heavy frame, and a four-light fanlight set under a timber lintel. To the left is an 18th-century sash window with a timber lintel, and above are an 18th-century two-light leaded casement with an iron-framed opening light, along with 20th-century leaded casements, all with timber lintols. A single-storey lean-to building runs along much of the roadside elevation, with a Welsh slate roof. It includes two two-light leaded casement windows in the front wall, a three-light window to the side, garage doors, and a boarded entrance door. One 18th-century window of two lights is present at both the first and second floor levels.

The interior is reportedly much-altered, with some possible remnants of early partitions. The arrangement of the rooms gives rise to speculation about the building’s original layout.
