Description
The Symes chest tomb, located 7 metres west-southwest of the west door of the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, is an early 19th-century structure made of Ham stone. It features a raised base and a moulded plinth, with one fielded panel on each face and coffered pilasters on the flanks. The tomb has a fairly thin moulded hipped top. It commemorates David Symes, who died in 1821, his widow who died in 1839, and Julietter Highmor Symes, who died in 1817. The design appears to be a deliberate imitation of the nearby early Highmor chest tomb.
