Description
The Symes monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 3 metres south of the south aisle of the Church of St. Michael in Compton Martin. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features a flat top with a gadrooned edge and quarter balusters that have gadrooned tops. It has a moulded plinth and an oval inscription panel on the south side, adorned with urns and torches in the spandrels. Most of the inscriptions have worn away, leaving only the name "Symes" legible.
