Description
Coombe Lodge is a house from the 18th century, possibly incorporating an earlier building, with alterations and additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of painted rubble with limestone dressings and features a double Roman tiled roof with raised coped verges. There is a stone gable stack on the left and a ridge stack at what may have been a former gable end. The irregular plan includes a wing that projects to the front right and a probable staircase tower at the rear.
The house has two storeys with three bays to the left of the ridge stack, two bays to the right, and a single bay wing. On the ground floor, from left to right, there are two 3-light casements with leaded lights, a panelled and glazed door with a flat hood, and on the first floor, there are similar 3-light casements on the left and right, along with a central 20th-century 2-light casement, all positioned under the eaves. The right side has a lower floor level, featuring a similar 3-light casement at ground level, a small 2-light pointed arched window, and another 3-light casement on the first floor.
The inner side of the wing has a ground floor 3-light casement, while the front features a sash window with a timber lintel on the first floor. The left return has a 4-pane attic light, and the right return of the wing has two single light windows and one 4-light 20th-century casement with lattice glazing and timber lintels. The first floor on the right return has a 2-light casement with a timber lintel to the left and a 3-light 20th-century casement with a 4-centred arch to the right. The roof is hipped to the right. There is a lower block set back to the right with a 4-centred arched door, which continues as a rear wing to the left. The rear features a 2½ storey stair tower with a 3-light casement and timber lintel at attic level. The rest of the rear and the interior are not accessible.
