Description
The Methodist Church is a building from the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of random sandstone rubble with limestone dressings and quoins, topped with slate roofs that feature raised coped verges and kneelers. The west front has a gable end and includes a gabled wooden porch set on a rubble plinth, which has double doors and a cast iron finial. Above the porch is a 3-light window with round heads; the central light is wider and taller, while the outer lights are separated by three moulded stone transoms, all topped with a round head and a bracketed keystone. The left and right sides of the church each have three bays with similar 2-light windows that include a glazed circle at the top and a plain keystone, with a string course positioned above the keystones.
At the rear, there is a church room that features a smaller 2-light window on the right side and a taller 2-light window on the left side, both with a gable above. A central door with a plain surround and a pendant keystone is also present, along with a similar string course. The left side has a similar 2-light window to the right, but lacks a string course, and includes a lean-to with a small 2-light round-headed window. The rear of the building has a single round-headed light in the lean-to, two shaped breathers in the gable end, and a stone gable stack.
Inside, the church features a 3-bay roof with principal rafters and collars, which are carved at the angles. There is a dais to the east with a carved pulpit and balustrade, and a similar 3-bay roof in the rear room. The original fittings include plain wooden pews and an organ dated 1888, made by Sweetland of Bath.
