Description

This is a 19th-century milestone located at Holbrook in Bratton Seymour. It is made of ham stone and features a cast iron plaque. The pillar measures 400 millimeters wide, 300 millimeters thick, and stands 1 meter high with a rounded top. The plaque is 375 millimeters wide and 400 millimeters high, with a shouldered curved top and a double cyma-recta base. The inscription on the plaque reads "Wincanton" on the curve, followed by "2/Castle Cary/4". This road was turnpiked by the Wincanton Trust in 1798.
