Description
Furlong is a detached cottage, formerly two cottages, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of local stone rubble, rendered on the front elevation, and features a thatched roof with coped gables and brick end chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and consists of four bays, with a single-storey extension against the west gable. The windows include two and three-light leaded casements, except for the upper bay 2, which has an 18th-century two-light casement with leading and an iron-framed opening light. There is a projecting open porch in stone with a thatched roof at bay 2, a bow window on the west extension, and bay 4 may also be an addition. The interior has not been seen. Furlong was likely built by John Hooper between 1758 and 1769 and served as a dame school from around 1850 to 1880.
