Description
Suddon Grange is a house dating from the mid-17th century, constructed from local stone rubble with ashlar dressings. It features a plain clay tile roof over stone slate base courses and has coped gables, along with ashlar stone and rendered chimney stacks. The building has a U-plan layout, which was formerly an 'L'-plan. The east elevation is two storeys high and consists of six bays. It includes reserve chamfer mullioned windows with three lights and leaded panes. There is a projecting two-storey porch at bay three, which has a flat roof supported by cornices and a pediment topped with ball finials. Below the porch is a 20th-century door and a two-light architraved window above. Additional mullioned windows are present on the south and west sides, while the northwest corner features a 20th-century addition. The interior has not been seen. The estate was first mentioned in 1227, with records of ownership dating back to 1578. The only documented rebuilding occurred during major internal and external alterations by Daniel Orchard between 1855 and 1859.
