Description

This milestone, located at ST 183 316, dates from the late 18th century. It is made of granite and cast iron and stands approximately 700 mm high. The stone has a round head and features an attached plaque inscribed with "9 miles to Bridgewater." The turnpike road that runs up Cothelstone Hill through the Cothelstone Manor estate was constructed in 1783, reportedly using stone from the decaying Manor House.
