Description
The Banqueting Hall at Cothelstone Manor is a house, possibly a dowerhouse, that has been divided into two parts. It dates from the early 17th century, with additions made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of red sandstone random rubble masonry, featuring ashlar bays and a moulded plinth. The roof is covered with bitumen and is slate, concealed behind a parapet, with a stone stack located to the right.
The structure is two stories tall and has a layout of one bay, two bays, and three bays, with the main 17th-century block on the right and the Victorian additions on the left. The main block features two full-height canted bays with four-light mullioned windows, flanking a round-headed doorway set in a square-headed frame that has moulded spandrels and impost piers, with a 20th-century door. Above the doorway is a round-headed niche that contains a terracotta roof finial.
To the left, there is a four-centred arch doorway with a two-light casement window to the left, which has a hood mould, a string course, and a three-light casement window in a four-centred arch above it, with the hood mould continuing as a string course. The outer bay is recessed and has a two-light casement window. Inside, the reputedly front room on the right contains a 17th-century plaster frieze.
