Description
The Old School House is a building that was originally a school and is now a dwelling, dated 1873. It is constructed of red sandstone with Ham stone dressings and features a moulded plinth, shallow pitched hipped slate roofs, and stone stacks. The main facade faces southeast and consists of a two-storey block with a full-height canted bay. The windows are five-light mullions that use the tripartite baluster-type mullions similar to those found at Cothelstone Manor. There are string courses between the storeys and a high parapet. To the left, there is a one-storey block with a four-light mullion and a string course that continues around a small block set in the angle, which contains the entrance and a single light window. The left return elevation features a three-light mullion, with a parapet topped by a gable that has ball finials and a cap, containing a bell with a plaque below inscribed "B73." The building is an attractive example of an attempt to develop an estate style. The property is also known as Woodcote.
