Description

This milestone, dated 1839, is located on the roadside at Wembdon Hill. It is made of rough hewn blue lias stone and features a cast iron plaque on the south side that reads "1 mile to Bridgwater." This milestone is part of the Bridgwater Turnpike Trust, which was established in 1730, and the road was turnpiked in 1839.
