Description

A farmhouse, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, with alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is pebbledash, with a bitumenised slate roof and three brick stacks. Originally an open hall house, it was later floored to create a three-room and cross-passage plan, with a further wing added to the rear forming an L-shaped layout. The front has two storeys and an attic, with a symmetrical arrangement of three bays. The first floor has three-light casement windows with glazing bars; the ground floor has two pairs of French windows with glazing bars, and a further 20th-century casement window to the left. All windows have rusticated jambs and stepped voussoirs made of cement. A C19 half-glazed door is located between the second and third bays, sheltered by a C20 gabled and glazed porch. The interior features a roof structure of jointed crucks, and a chamfered cross-beamed ceiling in the right-hand ground floor room. This room also contains a fireplace with a cambered and moulded wooden bressumer and moulded stone jambs. Exposed ceiling beams are visible throughout the house. There is an early 19th-century staircase, along with a further winder staircase.
