Description

Hobbswell is an early 19th-century house located on the north side of Kent Street in Cheddar. The building features roughcast walls, wide bracketed eaves, a slate roof, and brick stacks. It has a symmetrical design with two storeys and three bays. The first floor includes 12-pane sash windows, while the ground floor has 8-pane French windows with marginal lights. The central entrance has a 10-panel led door, with the top seven panels glazed and a fanlight above featuring radiating glazing bars.

To the left, there is a single-storey outshut that is set back, which has a parapet with coping and a pair of French windows that match the main style. To the right, there is another single-storey outshut with a similar design, featuring a pair of French windows and a window on each side. Inside, the house retains original features, including a well-type staircase with a moulded handrail supported by stick balusters and moulded tread brackets. The ground floor has six-panelled doors in fluted surrounds, and the hall boasts a decorative plaster cornice and a ceiling centre.

The forecourt wall is capped with random tufa and includes a pair of gate piers in a matching style on the left, also topped with tufa caps, and a pair of decorative wrought iron gates. The wall incorporates a small rubble garden room at its right end.
