Description

Durstons is a mid-19th century house located on the north side of High Street in Chard. The building features painted roughcast walls and a hipped slate roof at the front, which has wide projecting eaves supported by brackets and tall brick chimney stacks. The house has a U-shaped plan, with the right rear wing likely enlarged in the late 19th century. It stands two storeys high and has a three-window range. The front includes a painted stone classical-style porch, while the ground floor windows retain their original 6/6-pane sashes, and the first floor has late 19th-century horned 4/4-pane sashes.

Inside, there is an open-well staircase with bracket ends, stick balusters, and a wreathed handrail leading to a landing that features a sash window set in a Tudor-style arch, next to a round-arched niche in the rear wall. The first-floor left front room contains an off-centre white marble fireplace.

Additionally, there is a rubblestone forecourt wall with ashlar coping as a subsidiary feature.
