Description
The walls to the west of Durstons, located on the north side of High Street in Chard, date from the early to mid-19th century. They are constructed of coursed limestone rubble topped with flat brick capping. The walls feature brick quoining and have interlaced designs with swept pyramidal caps on the piers. The central portion of the wall is curved and includes a moulded cornice that supports a reset early 17th-century fireplace lintel, which is held up by a worn gargoyle from the 14th or 15th century. The wall extends approximately 73 meters from High Street to the north and is made of early to mid-19th century coursed flint and limestone rubble, with limestone quoins and capping. There is a small iron door located in the center of the wall.
