Description
No. 35 High Street is a house dating from the late 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The exterior is finished in stucco and features a thatched roof that extends from the house to the right, which is No. 37. At the rear, there is an extension with a pantile roof and brick stacks located on the left gable and rear wing. The house has a two-room cross-passage plan, with a rear wing on the left and a likely 19th-century outshut on the right. It stands two storeys tall and has a two-window range. The entrance door, positioned slightly to the right of centre, is a six-panel design with a shallow overlight, sheltered by a triangular porch. All windows are early 19th-century three/six-pane sashes set in forward frames.
Inside, the passage features a low 19th-century tongued-and-grooved ceiling. The left-hand front room displays exposed beams and chamfered joists, with an open fireplace that has an oak lintel supported by stone jambs featuring run-out stopped chamfers against the left outside wall. The wall backing onto the hall passage includes an early 19th-century elliptical-arched recess and a late 19th-century four-panel door. Some of the principal rafters of the roof trusses are exposed on the first floor.
