Description

Peacehaven is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations from the early and late 19th century. The ground floor is constructed of squared flint, while the upper part features coursed roughly-dressed limestone with irregular stone dressings around the door. It has rusticated stucco pilasters and a thatched roof, with brick stacks at the gable ends. The house has a double-depth central-stairhall plan and stands two storeys high, presenting a symmetrical three-window range.

The entrance features an early 19th-century six-panel door beneath a shallow wooden fanlight, set in a reeded doorcase with a segmental hood supported by brackets. There are early 19th-century canted two-storey bays on either side, each with 6/6-pane sash windows at the front and cornices above the ground floor windows. A similar 6/6-pane sash window is set forward in a moulded frame above the door. The rear wing, added in the 19th century, has been significantly altered.

Inside, there is some 17th-century panelling on the stair to the rear right of the hall, along with similar late 19th-century panelling on the first floor to the right. The rest of the interior features early 19th-century elements, including doors and cornices.

Attached to the house is a limestone plinth that supports spearheaded area railings of varying styles, complete with cast finials on each rail and a working gate to the left of the door.
