Description

Astral House is an early 19th century house located on the north side of the Old Market in Wisbech. The house is built of local gault brick, with a concealed roof behind a parpet finished with stone coping. It has three chimney stacks. The main building is three storeys high with a basement, arranged over five bays, and is complemented by a two-storey rear wing with a basement and a curved, apsidal plan.

The central entrance is accessed by four stone steps leading to a plain, pilastered stone doorcase with a cornice. The entrance features a recessed four-panelled door and a rectangular fanlight. Five six-paned recessed sash windows are on the second floor, set within flat gauged brick arches. Similar twelve-paned windows are present on the second and ground floors. The rear wing features a large, three-light hung sash window curved to a segmental plan.

The interior retains original cornices to the ceilings, featuring good central details. A plain open-string staircase has a raking handrail and slender newel posts. A six-panelled door with embossed panels is also present.
