Description
Nos. 9 and 10 North Street is a late 18th century or early 19th century house and shop. It is built of local brown brick and features a modern tiled mansard roof that was originally designed with shaped gables. The building has end stacks and is two storeys high with attics and a basement, along with a rear outshut. There is a shallow parapet with stone coping.
The front façade includes four first-floor windows set in flat gauged brick arches. The two inner windows above the entrances are twelve-paned hung sashes, while the outer windows are sixteen-paned hung sashes. The shop window for No. 9 is a fixed light with glazing bars, also set within an original gauged brick arch. The shop door is slightly recessed and features a fanlight in a round-headed arch.
The entrance to No. 10 has a wooden doorcase with a broken pediment, reeded reveals, and a round-headed arch, along with a patterned fanlight and a six-panelled door. Inside, the building has panelled window cases with shutters, a panelled door, and a closed string staircase with slender newel posts, all of which are contemporary to the building. Some of these interior details are also found in No. 9.
