Description
No. 12 North Street is a late 18th century house located in Wisbech. It is constructed of local brown brick and features a slate roof with end stacks. The building has stone floor bands, parapet coping, and window cills. It stands three storeys tall with a basement and includes a side passage to the east. At the rear, there is a wing with a tumbled parapet gable and an end stack, along with a stair turret at the angle.
The street facade has four 'bay' sections. On the second floor, there are four hung sash windows that are slightly recessed and lack glazing bars, set within cambered gauged brick arches. The first floor has four larger windows, and the ground floor has three windows, all similar in style. The entrance features a broken pedimented wooden doorcase with a round-headed arch and panelled reveals, along with a blind, patterned fanlight and a six-panelled door. The side passage also includes a small patterned fanlight.
Inside, the original details have been preserved. The entrance hall features half-panelling and a dado, panelled doors and cupboards, and a geometric open-string staircase that is approached by a wide elliptical arch. There are panelled window and doorcases, panelled doors, and a chimneypiece. A geometric patterned, painted hall floor is a rare survival.
