Description

No. 34 Old Market is an early 18th-century house that has been altered. It features painted brick and stucco with a steeply pitched slate roof and an end stack on the right side. The building has two storeys and a basement. It is said to have been the home of Jane Stuart, the illegitimate daughter of James II. On the first floor, there are three flush-framed hung sash windows, along with a shop window and a wooden doorcase with a pediment and a rectangular fanlight. Stone steps lead up to the entrance, flanked by a stone balustrade. For more information about Jane Stuart, see the Friends Meeting House on North Brink.
