Description

Yard Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, which was altered and enlarged in the 17th century and restored in the late 20th century. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble with a rendered facade and roughcast returns, topped with a slate roof featuring decorative ridge tiles. The building has an external stack on the right gable end and a brick stack to the left of the entrance against the cross passage wall, along with a large external stopped stack on the rear wing. The farmhouse is oriented east-west, with the site sloping away to the west, and features an open hall design with a long rear wing, giving it a "T"-plan layout.

The structure is two storeys high with four bays. All the windows on the facade are late 20th century wooden 2-, 3-, and 4-light designs with plate glass. The entrance, located in the second bay from the right, features a 20th century plank door and a gabled slate-roofed random rubble porch, accessed by a flight of four steps. The left and right returns have moulded 3-light mullion windows. Although the interior was not viewed, it is reported to contain exposed jointed crucks, some of which rise from the ground floor, as well as chamfered beams with a variety of enriched stops, a massive four-centred arch door frame, and a square-headed door frame with unusual moulding.
