Description
Meadow Sweet Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. It is constructed from colour washed random rubble and features a thatched roof with brick stacks at the gable ends. The layout includes a blocked cross passage with two cells on either side. The building has one and a half storeys and is adorned with five eyebrow dormers. It includes two- and three-light leaded casement windows with quadrant stays, and a lancet window positioned between the first and second dormers on the right. On the ground floor, there are two three-light casement windows to the left of the entrance and a four-light window to the right, along with a two-light window beyond. The thatched roof is hipped and supported by a porch on wooden supports. The left side of the building has buttressing, and there is an outshut at the rear. Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered beams with enriched stops, and there are remains of a four-panel compartment ceiling to the left of the cross passage, which has a partially blocked pointed arch opening at the rear. A thorough survey would likely uncover more interesting details about this building. It was formerly known as Lower Newton Farmhouse.
