Description
Kingswood Mill is a water mill and mill house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and features slate roofs with gabled ends, along with axial brick stacks that have rebuilt brick shafts. The building is L-shaped, with the house located to the west and the mill in the east wing, which includes a water wheel on the east side.
The mill stands three storeys tall and has asymmetrical elevations that feature renewed casement windows, some of which have cambered arches. The north front of the mill has a ground floor doorway on the right, with a loading door above it, both fitted with plank doors. An iron overshot water wheel is located on the east gable end.
Inside, the mill retains its wooden machinery, including a 2-step or spur-wheel drive with two pairs of millstones and their tuns. It has a large wooden hurst frame, an upright shaft with a single spur-wheel and crown-wheel, all made of wood. The stones floor and bin floor are supported by stop-chamfered beams, and the roof features a king-post and tenoned-purlin construction. The house has a tenoned-purlin roof and includes a large fireplace with a cambered timber bressummer and an oven.
Kingswood Mill is situated on the Doniford Stream.
