Description
Middle Trewern is a farmhouse dating from around 1600, with some earlier elements and a restoration in the 20th century. It is built from sandstone rubble and has a stone slate roof. The building has a T-plan layout, with the main wing oriented north/south facing east and a rear wing extending to the west. It features a main axial stack and a stack at the south gable end, with the entrance located to the left of center on the east front.
The farmhouse is a single storey with an attic. The east front includes four 2-light gabled dormer windows, a small 2-light window, and another 2-light window to the left, along with a similar 2-light window and a 4-light window to the right of a 20th-century ledged door. The north gable end retains wooden diamond mullioned windows.
Inside, the building has plank-and-muntin panelled screens with elaborately shaped heads at the main doorways in the former hall, while the remaining doorways have segmental heads. There is a wooden staircase in the west wing with moulded strings and a heavy newel post, as well as a stone winder staircase in the south gable end. The former hall features a large open fireplace with a massive stone lintel. Additionally, a section of a cruck blade is embedded against the stack.
