Description
Celyn is a farmhouse that dates back to the 15th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and a cross-wing added in the late 19th or early 20th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and has a roof that is partly covered with Welsh slate and partly with synthetic slate. The original 15th-century house is oriented east to west and features an axial stack that backs onto a through-passage. The later addition is aligned north to south and is attached at the west end, featuring gable-end stacks.
The entrance is located on the north front, where the earlier house is a single storey with an attic. The later addition has two storeys. On the north entrance front, there are two 2-light casement windows to the left of a 19th-century wooden framed doorway with a ledged door. The gable end of the 19th-century wing is to the right, which has two 2-light casement windows on its right-hand return.
Inside, the earlier wing displays cruck construction with two surviving trusses. The main room features an inserted floor with well-crafted stop-chamfered beams that have jewelled stops, and there is a large open fireplace.
