Description
The Former Village School and School House is a school building from the 19th century, which appears to incorporate elements from an 18th-century structure. It is constructed of local stone coursed rubble and features a plain clay tile roof with coped gables and brick chimney stacks at each end. The building has two storeys and consists of three bays in the main block.
The west-facing elevation, which faces the road, includes timber casement windows with two lights and doorways on both levels in the third bay. The upper doorway is accessed by brick and timber stairs that have a sloping tiled roof. There is a low 19th-century extension on the north gable, while the south side likely contains the older 18th-century building.
At the rear, the main block features tall timber casements set in brick surrounds, alongside 18th-century casements with leaded lights in iron sub-frames. The south extension includes large stable doors beneath an elliptical arch and casements under segmental arches, with a loft door located in the middle. A weathervane is situated on the south gable. The building has been disused since November 1983 and is located in the corner of the grounds of Cucklington House.
