Description
Orchard Cottage is a house dating from the early 19th century, constructed from local stone that is cut and squared, featuring ashlar lintels. The roof is covered with plain clay tiles and has simple gables, along with brick chimney stacks at each end. The building stands two storeys tall and has three bays. It includes 16-pane sash windows that are set flush with the wall, with the window boxes exposed. The central entrance features a six-panel door with glazed top panels, sheltered by a lead-covered flat timber hood supported by ornamental wood brackets and cast iron tubular posts. There is a low two-storey extension on the west gable and an outshut at the rear. The interior remains largely unchanged.
The front boundary wall is made of coursed rubble with plain coping and has sweeps leading up to the gateway. The return wall back to the house on the west side is capped with clay ridge tiles.
