Description
This structure consists of steps, raised pavements, a retaining wall, and handrails, with a total length of approximately 55 metres. It was built in the early 19th century using local lias stone that has been cut and squared, and features wrought iron handrails. The retaining walls reach up to 3 metres high and include two flights of 10 steps each. There are horizontal rails supported by cast iron pillars, and stepping stones leading into the gutter at both the mid-point and the top. This feature protects Arrondale and the French House, enhancing their setting and contributing significantly to the streetscape leading up to the Church of All Saints.
