Description

Victoria House is a late 18th-century house located in a row on North Street in Langport. The building is rendered and colourwashed, featuring Ham stone dressings and a plain clay tile roof with coped gables and brick end chimneys. It stands two storeys high and has four bays. The upper bays 2 and 3 have sash windows with 12 panes in plain openings, while the outer bays have composite angled bays at both levels, all set under lead flat roofs. Between bays 2 and 3, there is a pair of part-glazed doors leading to an open porch, which is supported by four front columns in a Chinese style and has a lead bell-hipped roof, all set on three steps. To the right of bay 4, there is another part-glazed door in a plain opening. The interior has not been seen.

The front boundary railings are an important feature of the house's setting, with set-backs and curved sweeps leading to the porch and framing the steps. The railings have twist spearhead points and cast-iron urn finials on thicker standards, all mounted on low lias stone plinths. The house, along with its railings, contributes significantly to the streetscape.
