Description
Newhaven is an early 19th century house situated in a row on the east side of North Street, Langport. The house is constructed of fine jointed red brick in Flemish bond, with a plain clay tile roof behind stepped coped gables and one brick end chimney stack. It is two storeys high and has two bays. The house has sash windows in plain openings, with rubbed gauged brick flat heads. The lower bay has 12 panes per window on the ground floor, and 16 and 12 panes above. The ground floor of the second bay features a part-glazed door within a matching opening, sheltered by a metal lean-to hood supported by wrought iron brackets.
To the north, a screen wall in matching brickwork connects the house to Morningside. This wall includes a boarded door at ground level and a window-sized plain opening above, finished with flat coping at eaves level. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
Approximately two metres from the house, a brick wall sits on a lias stone base, topped with Ham stone copings that sweep upwards at the ends. A wrought iron gate is centrally positioned within the wall, featuring twisted spearhead finials on the rails and urn finials on the standards. The wall and gate contribute to the setting of the house and to the wider streetscape.
