Description
The flight of steps with flanking wall and retaining wall provides pedestrian access to a terrace of houses and was built in the mid-19th century for the London Lead Company. The structure features coursed dry sandstone rubble walls, wrought-iron posts, and a handrail, along with ashlar steps. It consists of a long curved flight of steps leading from a lane to the west of Prospect Terrace. There is a wall approximately 4 meters high at the lane, topped with a flat stone lintel over the entrance to the steps. A retaining wall of the same height is located on the east side of the steps, both walls having rubble coping. A plain round-section handrail is attached to the east wall by iron eyes and two posts. This structure is a notable example of dry stone construction.
