Description
Nos 86 to 90 Staplegrove Road is a substantial U-shaped house dating from the mid-19th century, with possible earlier elements. The main front faces south, and it features two wings that extend to the rear. The building is two storeys high, constructed of roughcast and colourwashed. It has a parapet with a dentil eaves cornice, although the cornice is missing on the left side. The house has banded quoins and six windows with moulded architrave surrounds, mostly consisting of three lights each with casements. There is a two-storey extension with a porch located at the centre of No 88, and later bays have been added to the ground floor windows. Additional entrances are found in the side wings. Nos 86 to 90, along with the Summerhouse at the Language Centre, The Cottage, and the Swiss Cottage in Linden Grove, form a group with Weir House, Weir Lodge, and the gatepiers.
