Description

The service box at the junction with Staplegrove Road in Taunton is a Grade II listed electricity service box, dating from the late 19th century to early 20th century. It was made by Hardy and Padmore Ltd, Worcester, for the Taunton Corporation Electricity Department. The box is rectangular in shape, featuring panel-decorated hinged doors on the long sides and circular plates with the maker's name on the short sides, surrounded by interlaced decoration. It has a roll-moulded edge to its pyramidal cap, topped with an urn-type finial. This service box is a rare example of an early design and was installed between 1894 and 1916.
