Description

The Whittle Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 9 meters southeast of the porch of the Church of the Holy Cross. It dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and is made of Doulting and Keinton stone. The monument features a moulded plinth on a slate base, with slab ends and flanks adorned with fluted corner pilasters and central pilasters on the flanks. It has a plain frieze and moulded coving leading to a thin, almost flat top. The tomb commemorates members of the Whittle family, including George, who died in 1815, and Thomas Walter, who died in 1834.
