Description

The Bower monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 2 miles southeast of the porch of the Church of the Holy Cross. It dates from the 18th century and is made of Doulting and Keinton stone. The base is a buried plain slab with fluted corner plasters and panelled centrepieces on the sides. It features a pulvinated frieze and moulded coving on the hipped top. The monument commemorates several members of the Bower family, including William Bower, who died in 1724, and John Lewis Bower, who died in 1785.
