Description
Underhill Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early 18th century and 19th century. It is constructed from local grey lias stone that has been cut and squared, with a roof of triple roll clay tiles between coped gables. The southern half of the farmhouse has been thatched within living memory and features brick chimney stacks.
The west elevation has two storeys and consists of three bays on each side. The northern half, dating from the 19th century, has 16-pane sash windows set in voussoired segmental arched openings with exposed sash boxes. The upper window bay has two windows, and below it is a glazed door with a simple slim fanlight set in a matching opening. This portion also has four through tie-rods with circular plates. The southern half, dating from the 18th century, has lower-set horizontal bar casement windows, with a 3-light window under timber lintels below and a 2-light window above. There is also a further single-storey extension against the south gable.
The east elevation of the northern part matches the west, while the southern section has an additional lean-to along this face. The interior has not been seen.
