Description
Moon Cottage is a toll house that has been converted into a residence. It dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, with some alterations and additions made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed and squared rubble and features a thatched roof with undulating eaves, along with colourwashed brick stacks.
The cottage is designed in an L-plan and exhibits a Gothick style. The main facade faces Bath Road and is single-storey with two bays. It has two-light stone mullioned windows that include Y-tracery and pointed heads, with square-paned leaded lights. Similar windows are found at each end of this range, set in shallow pointed head recesses. There is a door opening on the left return with a segmental head, freestone surround, and keystone, featuring a 20th-century door. The other elevations maintain a consistent style. Moon Cottage is an important feature along the roadside and is part of the Bridgwater Turnpike Trust.
