Description

Turnpike Cottage is a toll house built around 1827. It features colourwashed rubble walls and segmental pantile roofs, with a central rendered chimney stack. The building has an L-shaped plan, consisting of two projecting polygonal wings and an additional section to the west. It is a single-storey structure with five windows on the front, which are 2-light casements with glazing bars, each light having a pointed head. There is a door opening to the west with a plank door. This cottage was constructed for the Wedmore Turnpike Trust, which was established in 1827.
