Description

Cossington Grange is a country house, now used as offices, dating from the early to mid-19th century. The building is constructed from coursed and squared rubble and features wide bracketed eaves, a low pitched hipped slate roof, and rendered stacks. The symmetrical front has two storeys and is arranged in a 2:1:2 bay configuration, with the centre section slightly projecting forward. The sash windows are set in colourwashed brick surrounds, with nine panes on the first floor and the ground floor windows having had their glazing bars removed.

The central door opening contains recessed paired half-glazed doors topped by a fanlight with glazing bars. The outer doorway has a semi-circular head with a moulded arch supported by a short section of entablature on either side, featuring a Tuscan column and a Tuscan pilaster on the wall. There are paired panelled doors and a narrow light between each column and pilaster. The rear of the building follows a similar style, although it has an altered semi-circular head stairlight.

Inside, there is a fine cantilevered geometric staircase with ornamental iron balusters and a wreathed mahogany handrail. The interior also boasts ornamental plaster cornices and panelled archways, although some 20th-century internal divisions and alterations have been made.
