Description
These stables, located about 35 metres east-north-east of Eastham's Gate Farmhouse, were built in the late 19th century. They are constructed from local stone that is roughly cut and squared, with brick detailing. The roof features a triple-angle design covered in clay tiles, with wide overhangs on both gables and eaves, showcasing exposed rafter and purlin ends. The architectural style is reminiscent of Swiss or Austrian chalets.
The stables are two storeys high and consist of two bays by one bay. The roadside elevation includes two semi-circular arched windows with rectangular casements that are diamond-leaded, set into brick-lined openings with lias stone cills. Above these windows, there is a five-panel timber frame with rustic timbered infill, mostly arranged diagonally. The north-east gable features a two-light shuttered window at the upper level, while the south-west gable has a stable door below and a loft door above. The interior has not been seen. This building is considered picturesque and has group value with Eastham's Gate Farmhouse.
