Description
The stables, located to the west of Barn Cottages, date from the late 17th century or early 18th century. They are constructed of English garden wall bond brickwork with stone dressings and feature a stone slate roof. The ground floor comprises two compartments for stabling, with a hayloft above. There are two segmental-headed doorways, each with heavy stone surrounds; the right doorway is slightly chamfered and made of a more durable stone. Flanking each door are three-light windows, constructed with heavy frames that are pegged together, featuring timber mullions and an intermediate wrought iron bar, which likely once had shutters. The first floor includes five heavy square stone chamfered pitching holes. The gables are coped with kneelers, and each gable has a circular stone pitching eye, along with what appears to be a later door in the right gable. Inside, there are two king-post roof trusses, one of which incorporates a re-used tie of considerable size.
