Description
Malta House, Middle Malta, and Little Malta are three cottages that contain some features from the 15th century, although they have been largely rebuilt in the 19th century. The cottages are constructed from coursed and squared rubble and have a triple Roman tile roof with three brick ridge stacks on the front range and a coped verge. The building has an L-shaped frontage and is two storeys high, with a layout of two, one, and one bays. The windows include two and three-light casements, each with a single horizontal glazing bar, and some are set under wooden lintels. Notably, there is a two-light chamfered stone-mullioned window on the ground floor of Malta House. The extreme right bay features a projecting wing with a front-facing gable. The door opening to Malta House has a dressed stone surround and a six-panelled door, with the top two panels glazed and topped by a triangular stone pediment on consoles. There is also a door opening to Middle Malta in a chamfered pointed-arch stone surround, which has a six-panelled door and a narrow single-light window set above in a dressed stone surround. Additionally, there is a door opening to the rear and a single-storey lean-to to the right of the frontage, which is not of special interest.
