Description
Greyhound House and Greyhound Cottage are a group of cottages dating back to the 17th century, with significant remodelling around 1800, the mid-19th century and in the 20th century. They are constructed of limestone rubble, with some areas rendered. The roof is covered with Mansard pantiles, featuring stone-coped gables and single gable and two ridge stacks.
The two-storey and attic cottages present a seven-bay front, with the three bays on the left-hand side rendered at ground floor level. A doorway on the right has a roughly quoined surround, wooden lintel and a panelled door. This doorway is flanked by plain sash windows with wooden lintels, positioned in the openings of what were originally 17th-century mullion windows. A doorway on the left also has a quoined surround and a panelled door. A blocked doorway is found further to the left, where a 20th-century two-light casement window has been inserted, with a wedge lintel. This window is flanked by 20th-century bow windows with glazing bars. Above, five plain sash windows are set within wooden lintels, inserted into all but one of the original six mullion windows. The remaining mullion window, located above the right-hand doorway, is blocked with rubble. A further four flat-headed dormers are visible, each with a small glazing bar sash window.
